Knoxville Construction Update

It has been a few weeks since we last provided an update on the McCrery Architects’ designed Sacred Hearth Cathedral in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Knoxville maintains a website with monthly construction updates which can be viewed here: http://shcathedral.org/cathedral-construction/

Knoxville Caissons

The cathedral site is currently being cleared for drilling holes to set foundational caisson piles. The first of these was drilled and set this week. Here’s a picture from the construction site:

Pope Francis Blesses the Knoxville Cathedral Cornerstone

Bishop Richard Stika of Knoxville has been in Rome attending the synod, and presented the cornerstone for the new cathedral, designed by McCrery Architects, to the pope for his blessing. A description of the event can be found on the cathedral’s website, and additional photographs are available on the cathedral’s Flickr page.
