The downtown Aiken skyline has received a new addition, as the bell tower at Saint Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church has taken shape over the past couple months.
R.W. Allen had previously constructed the foundations and base for the bell tower when they constructed the new church building on Fairfield Street, which was consecrated on February 2, 2015. This past spring, they returned to begin building the rest of the bell tower.
Once completed and capped by a cross, the bell tower will be nearly 100 feet tall. It will also feature four new cast bells from Christoph Paccard Bell Foundry with plans to add five more bells in the future.
